Role and Responsibilities:
The Sales Floor Department Supervisor for Building Materials at Lowe’s is responsible for leading a team of associates within the Building Materials department to deliver excellent customer service, drive sales, and maintain an organized and well-stocked store environment. This role involves supervising associates, managing daily department operations, supporting customer interactions, and ensuring safety compliance. - Team Leadership & Operations:
- Supervise and support a team of associates in the Building Materials department.
- Provide coaching, feedback, and performance management to department staff.
- Monitor staffing needs, assign tasks, and ensure coverage throughout the day.
- Lead daily opening/closing duties and assist with store operations as Manager on Duty (MOD) when scheduled.
- Customer Service:
- Greet and assist customers with questions related to lumber, drywall, concrete, insulation, fencing, roofing, and other building materials.
- Ensure that associates are trained to recommend appropriate materials and services based on customer needs.
- Resolve escalated customer concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- Sales & Merchandising:
- Drive department sales by motivating team members and ensuring execution of Lowe’s promotions and merchandising plans.
- Monitor and maintain product displays, signage, and pricing to ensure compliance with company standards.
- Support upselling and cross-selling of related products such as fasteners, tools, or home improvement services.
- Inventory & Stocking:
- Oversee inventory control, including ordering, receiving, and managing stock levels for high-demand building materials.
- Ensure timely down stocking and replenishment of merchandise.
- Conduct regular inventory counts and audits to reduce shrink and maintain accuracy.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Conduct safety walks and ensure that all associates follow safe lifting techniques and equipment protocols.
- Identify and report potential hazards or equipment malfunctions.
- Promote a clean, organized, and hazard-free department environment.
Required Skills and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 3 years of experience in a retail environment OR 5 years of relevant work experience.
- 1 year of customer service experience.
- Experience leading or supervising a team (formally or informally).
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and point-of-sale (POS) systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in building materials, construction supplies, or home improvement retail.
- Knowledge of lumber, concrete, drywall, insulation, roofing, and related product categories.
- Key-carrying experience or prior Manager on Duty (MOD) responsibilities.
- Experience working in a high-volume, fast-paced retail environment.
- Bilingual skills are a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. without assistance and more with assistance.
- Able to stand, walk, and move about the sales floor for extended periods.
- Comfortable using ladders, pallet jacks, and power equipment (with training).
