Role and Responsibilities
As a Merchandise Handler, you play a key role in delivering excellent customer service by ensuring that orders for online sales and in-store pickups are accurately and promptly prepared. Your core duties include:
Providing polite and helpful support to customers and colleagues.
Picking, organizing, and preparing items according to order specifications.
Checking merchandise for damage and confirming order accuracy.
Safely loading products, including large or heavy items, into customer vehicles or delivery trucks.
Restocking shelves to keep inventory available and maintain store organization.
Collaborating with delivery and installation teams to verify order details.
Operating power equipment safely in line with company policies.
Keeping work areas tidy and following inventory management procedures.
Travel Requirements
This role typically does not require travel but may occasionally involve trips for training or meetings.
Required Skills and Experience
Basic skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic.
At least six months of experience using computers for data entry or record keeping.
Comfortable using mobile devices like tablets or smartphones.
Ability to lift 25 pounds independently (heavier lifting may need assistance).
Physical ability to stand, bend, and lift for prolonged periods.
Willingness to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Eligibility to obtain any necessary licenses or registrations as required by law.
Preferred Qualifications
Six months of retail experience, preferably in home improvement or hardware stores.
Previous experience in customer service or order fulfillment.
Experience handling loading, unloading, or moving merchandise.
Certified and experienced in operating powered equipment such as forklifts or pallet jacks (certification required within 30 days for Pro Department roles).
